What I keep in mind
My teaching career took place in two very distinct periods.
Not a dream job
I started teaching for economic reasons while I was writing my Master’s degree in Medieval Literature and then was planning to continue my research. The lack of training in French language didactics as well as the absence of professional perspectives could not compensate for my energy and my intuitions concerning formative assessment and creative writing: I was as incompetent as unsatisfied. In hindsight, I can also add that the expectations – implicit and conservative – of the private institutions that recruited me at that time were a real foil.
Building a skill
Young mother, having read many books on the acquisition of language(s) and now living abroad, I started a Master’s degree in French as a Foreign Language. The theoretical and practical tools brought me the scaffolding that had terribly missed me during my first professional experiences.
The training as well as the variety of the public and the numerous exchanges within the international teams of teachers allowed me to build a real professional competence. Students progress, feedback from parents and colleagues, the progressive use of digital tools like the discovery of cognitive psychology have brought me great professional satisfaction.
After fifteen years of reflective and collaborative practice, the transition to the profession of trainer and author has been most rewarding.
